Would you like to increase production while keeping costs low? Discover how Vittorio Gariglio, at his agricultural company Bio Extra Solum in Piedmont, created a vertical farm that combines efficiency and sustainability. With our LED technology, Mr. Gariglio was able to standardize basil growth, reduce greenhouse operating costs, and optimize the use of resources like fertilizers and water. In this article, we will show you how our AE32 lamps transformed his production process.

S.A.BA.R case: Basil- For a basilicious result
The project

The goal was to maintain stable basil production year-round to meet customer demand while preserving impeccable quality. To achieve this, a vertical farm was designed with hydroponic technology and a fully enclosed environment where every growth parameter is controlled.
The primary challenge was to provide plants with optimal lighting in the absence of natural light, standardizing growth and giving the leaves a deep green color, symbol of quality.

Installation description

The vertical farm consists of 6 racks, each with 4 levels, designed to optimize space and maximize yield. The entire structure is illuminated by our AE32 LED lamps, chosen for their ultra-slim design and low-voltage operation, ideal for controlled environments.
The AE32 lamps emit a calibrated light spectrum to stimulate basil growth, ensuring:

  • The right amount of light for every level of the structure.
  • Consistent growth across all shelves.
  • A vibrant green color, indicative of healthy, high-quality plants.
Installed product

Aquila

In Vittorio Gariglio’s basil vertical farm, we installed AE32 lamps, corresponding to the upgraded version Aquila. With a calibrated light spectrum and compact design, Aquila is perfectly suited for the multi-level racks, ensuring uniform growth and the characteristic deep green color of basil. Its resistance to humidity and energy efficiency make Aquila the ideal LED fixture for this indoor cultivation.

Benefits achieved

Thanks to our LED solutions, the project delivered extraordinary results:

  • Production efficiency: basil growth was standardized, enabling consistent production all year.
  • Cost reduction: the system reduced water, fertilizer, and energy usage compared to traditional methods.
  • Superior quality: basil leaves displayed a uniform, deep green color, enhancing product value.
  • Environmental sustainability: Low-voltage LED lighting and the hydroponic environment contributed to a more eco-friendly production process.

As we always emphasize, our goal is to provide ready-to-use solutions for indoor cultivation, improving plant health and maximizing results for our clients.
