Algae farms play a growing role in the pharmaceutical and food industries due to their high-value applications. Tank-based cultivation systems are transforming algae production, allowing for more controlled environments and scalable growth. We partnered with Milis Energy in Sardinia and Agro Initiative in Veneto to improve the performance of their algae operations through custom LED lighting. By integrating our AE100 LED lighting lamps, both companies enhanced the quality, efficiency, and consistency of their systems.
In this case study, you’ll discover how our algae lamps helped optimize production, improve environmental control, and boost long-term reliability—demonstrating the real-world effect of light on photosynthesis and its impact on plants growth in algae systems.

The project

Milis Energy, located in Oristano, adopted our AE100 grow light for plants to enhance biomass yields in microalgae tank systems. Their objective was to achieve stable lighting conditions and reduce energy use, while improving overall algae quality. Agro Initiative, based in Veneto, faced similar goals and chose AE100 LED fixtures to improve light uniformity in their tank setups. Both companies required solutions for environments where humidity, temperature variation, and biological sensitivity make consistency a challenge. Our AE100 algae light proved effective in delivering these benefits. The controlled artificial light for plants made it possible to reduce operational costs while supporting measurable increases in biomass production and cultivation stability.

Installation description

In Sardinia, Milis Energy deployed AE100 LED lighting lamps to create a more consistent and stable environment for algae growth. The lamps were installed across algae tanks to ensure even light coverage and reduce fluctuations in production. Similarly, Agro Initiative in Veneto installed AE100 units to deliver balanced illumination and support healthy development in their algae farms. In both locations, the challenge was achieving predictable outcomes under difficult conditions. Our custom LED lighting solution proved ideal for managing variables in tank-based systems, enhancing light control and reliability. These improvements allowed both companies to better manage their growing environments while supporting healthier algae through targeted plants light application.

Installed product

AE100

The AE100 algae lamp is specifically engineered to emit light within the photosynthetically active spectrum, promoting enhanced plants growth and efficient biomass development. Its robust design allows it to perform in high-humidity and high-temperature environments commonly found in tank-based algae cultivation. This makes it ideal for challenging setups that demand consistent light output and long-term durability. Thanks to its LED efficiency and minimal heat generation, the AE100 helps maintain optimal temperatures within the tanks, preventing thermal stress. Whether for food, cosmetics, or pharmaceutical use, this artificial light for plants supports sustainable productivity while reducing maintenance needs—making it a dependable solution for algae-focused cultivation strategies.

Benefits achieved

Following the integration of our AE100 algae lamps, Milis Energy and Agro Initiative reported notable benefits:

  • Energy efficiency: 50% reduction in energy consumption, significantly lowering operating costs.
  • Uniform growth: consistent light distribution for stable results in every tank.
  • Reduced heat generation: improved conditions for algae development without thermal stress.
  • Enhanced biomass quality: richer, more productive crops.

These outcomes underline the impact of our growing lights and the effect of light on photosynthesis in controlled algae environments. Both partners enhanced productivity while embracing a more sustainable, efficient approach to algae farming — a growing need in modern agriculture and biotech applications.
