S.A.I.S. (Società Agricola Italiana Sementi SPA), headquartered in Emilia Romagna, is a leading company in the production of high-quality seeds.
The company approached us to enhance the efficiency and performance of its growth chambers, used for research and development activities in its plant pathology laboratory.
Continue reading to discover how our LED fixtures transformed S.A.I.S.’s facilities, improving seedling quality and making the research process more effective.
The project
The primary goal was to optimize lighting in the growth chambers, with controlled humidity and temperature. These settings are essential for studying pathogen symptoms and plant responses. The challenge was to replace the existing neon lamps with LED fixtures that would improve light quality, ensure uniform growth, and enhance seedling performance.
Installation description
We provided six LED lamps for each growth chamber, designed to cover an area of 13 m². In addition to our growth-specific fixtures, we installed white LED lamps dedicated to plant inspections, ensuring optimal conditions for visually evaluating results.
These solutions were implemented in the growth chambers of S.A.I.S.’s plant pathology laboratory, where various species such as tomato, zucchini, pepper, and basil are studied. The calibrated lighting of our fixtures provided an optimal spectrum for plant development while reducing energy consumption compared to traditional neon lamps.

Benefits achieved
With the installation of our LED fixtures, S.A.I.S. achieved significant improvements:
- More uniform growth: seedlings displayed regular and vigorous development compared to the previous lighting setup.
- Improved quality: tests showed healthier and more robust growth throughout the plants’ life cycles.
- Enhanced research efficiency: dedicated lighting facilitated accurate evaluation of pathogen symptoms and crop responses.
- Lighting efficiency: our fixtures delivered superior performance with reduced energy consumption compared to neon lamps.
As confirmed by Franca Castagnoli, Technical Director of S.A.I.S.:
“We use the growth chambers primarily to evaluate the symptoms of various pathogens and plant responses. For the species we handle, mainly tomato, zucchini, pepper, and basil, we observed a marked improvement in seedling quality compared to the previous neon lighting. This improvement was also evident during the plants’ growth and life cycles.”
Through these innovations, we have made S.A.I.S.’s growth chambers an even more effective tool for their advanced research, contributing to the improvement of seed quality.
