Solos is an innovative company based in Bolzano, specializing in growing lettuce in greenhouse environments for the local markets of Italy, Austria, and Germany. Focused on sustainability and freshness, Solos provides high-quality produce through aquaponic systems.
In this case study, we explore how our LED growing lights played a key role in enhancing plants growth, optimizing early development, and reducing energy use. Our advanced lighting solutions offered precise control over light exposure and spectral quality—ensuring healthy seedlings before greenhouse transfer.
This collaboration highlights the combined benefits of location, innovation, and LED efficiency in sustainable greenhouse farming setups tailored for local, fresh, and eco-conscious cultivation.

The project

To improve the yield and quality of organic lettuce, Solos launched a project focused on early plants growth in indoors greenhouse environments. The goal was to accelerate rooting and vegetative phases using optimized light conditions in growth chambers. Once plants reach a certain size, they are moved to the aquaponics greenhouse, where they mature under both natural light and supplemental greenhouse lights. This system supports all stages—from early rooting to full development—ensuring uniform quality. With controlled temperature, humidity, and light via our growing lights, Solos built an efficient, scalable model for aquaponic farming that increases output and minimizes resource waste, while maintaining consistently high standards for lettuce quality.

Installation description

Solos selected our AE100 LED grow lamps, equipped with Osram LEDs, to illuminate its indoor growing chambers and support vigorous plants growth. These lamps provide a balanced LED light spectrum, ensuring uniform light distribution crucial for developing young lettuce plants. AE100 units are also installed in the greenhouse farming area, where they supplement natural light during early mornings and evenings, enabling steady growth all year round. Their precision output and high LED efficiency help maintain optimal conditions from germination to harvest. By integrating this system, Solos ensures healthier plants, stronger root structures, and more predictable harvest cycles—meeting market demands with consistently fresh, local produce grown under ideal light.

Installed product

AE100

The AE100 lamp is engineered for high-intensity agricultural settings like greenhouse farming and indoor propagation chambers. With individual Osram LEDs, it provides a targeted LED light spectrum that stimulates plants growth through all vegetative stages. Its construction ensures stability in humid, high-temperature environments—key in aquaponics greenhouse setups. The lamp’s longevity (90% light retention after 100,000 hours) and high LED efficiency make it a reliable, low-maintenance solution for modern aquaponic systems. Designed to promote strong early growth and resilient crops, AE100 ensures optimized lighting even when environmental conditions fluctuate. For Solos, this means robust performance across all growing areas with a minimal ecological footprint.

Benefits achieved

Thanks to our lighting system, Solos achieved major improvements in productivity and sustainability:

  • Superior quality: lettuce is sold with live roots, preserving freshness and shelf life.
  • Lighting efficiency: our lamps deliver 15 hours of daily light, supporting growth during low-sunlight hours.
  • Ecological innovation: integrated aquaponic systems use fish waste to naturally fertilize crops, creating a closed-loop growing model.

These results underscore the benefits of LED lighting in modern agriculture. Solos successfully combines growing lights and aquaponic farming to meet customer demand for clean, healthy, and sustainably grown lettuce. By pairing advanced lighting with resource-smart farming, Solos positions itself as a leader in local, eco-friendly greenhouse farming.
